StoryPoints
Updated over 4 months ago

StoryPoints are dynamic, expandable windows that display rich media and personalized content, guiding your audience’s attention to critical information and enhancing engagement. As interactive elements, they provide additional context with text, images, media, and embedded videos, highlighting key value points and connecting the dots in your narrative.

How to Create a StoryPoint

Creating a StoryPoint is simple: click the Create Items tool in the Toolbar, and select StoryPoint. You can then move and position your StoryPoint anywhere inside the Canvas.

StoryPoint Types

StoryPoints come in three distinct styles – Bubble, Tooltip, and Beacon – each designed to serve a unique purpose within your Story. Understanding when and how to use these types will help you effectively guide your audience’s attention and convey your key messages seamlessly.

Bubble

Description: Like heading on your website, Bubbles are the focal points in each Scene, designed to capture immediate attention.

When to Use: Use StoryPoint Bubbles to present the most critical value aspects of your product, ensuring these messages are the first to engage your audience.

Tooltip

Description: Tooltips are concise callouts with optional pointers that reveal rich media and content when clicked.

When to Use: Ideal for making complex products digestible, allowing audiences to explore relevant features without feeling overwhelmed.

Arrows: Call out a specific feature using arrows which can be positioned on any side of the Tooltip.

Beacon

Description: Beacons are subtle indicators that pulse gently to draw attention to non-critical features.

When to Use: Perfect for highlighting additional features that may be relevant to technical users without distracting from the main narrative.

Labels: Labels are small callouts that point to the Beacon and display the StoryPoint's title when zoomed out. They can be positioned on any side of the Beacon, or disabled for a more subtle effect.

How to Select a StoryPoint Type

Click on Style in the StoryPoint settings and select the desired StoryPoint type.

StoryPoint Components

StoryPoints consist of three main components: Titles, Content Blocks, and Buttons.

Titles

All StoryPoints have a title that lives at the top of the StoryPoint window. Depending on the StoryPoint type, this title might also be visible in the zoomed-out state.

Content Blocks

StoryPoints can include various content blocks such as text, images, videos, and embedded media.

Buttons

StoryPoints can include optional buttons that trigger specific actions, such as:

  • Open an External URL for additional content, book a demo, or start a trial

  • Open a StoryPoint to provide additional context or step by step guidance

  • Jump to a Scene like a choose-your-own-adventure story taking your audience closer to decision

  • Close StoryPoint

These actions help guide your audience through the narrative and lead them to additional resources or steps.

Where applicable, toggle on Mark as Conversion to track conversions and performance in the Insights Hub.

Content Blocks

StoryPoints can include various content blocks such as text, images, videos, and embedded media.

Text Blocks

Text blocks allow you to provide detailed descriptions, instructions, and context. They are ideal for explaining complex concepts or providing step-by-step guides.

How to Create and Edit

To add a text block, click the Plus button, select Text Block, enter or paste your content, and format it using the available tools. You can adjust font size, style, and color to match your Story’s theme.

Best Practices

  • Keep text concise and to the point to maintain audience interest.

  • Use bullet points or numbered lists for clarity and easier reading.

  • Highlight key points using bold or italics.

  • User hyperlinks to link out to additional documentation or ebooks.

Image Blocks

Images can visually illustrate concepts and features, making it easier for your audience to understand and retain information. They add a visual appeal that can break up text and keep your audience engaged.

How to Create and Edit

To insert an image, click the Plus button, select Upload Media, and select or upload your file. You can then adjust size, position, padding, and add a border. If you'd like to feature the image at the top of the StoryPoint, click Pin to Top.

Best Practices

  • Use high-quality images to ensure your Stories look professional and visually appealing on all devices. ScreenSpace will automatically optimize them for performance and speed.

  • We recommend using content that’s either square or horizontal. This format fits best with our layout and provides a more engaging viewing experience.

  • When using vertical images, it may push text off the screen. If this happens, either crop your image, or reduce the size inside ScreenSpace.

Videos • Lotties

Videos and Lottie animations offer dynamic and engaging demonstrations, bringing your Story to life. They are perfect for showcasing features in action or providing visual guidance.

How to Create and Edit

To include a video, click the Plus button, select Upload Media, and select or upload your file. You can then set autoplay or loop.

Best Practices

  • Keep videos short and focused on key points to maintain engagement.

  • Ensure good video quality and clear audio – where applicable.

  • For long-form videos over 1 minute, we recommend embedding your video.

🔊 Audio Playback: Due to browser restrictions you must turn off autoplay in order to enable audio.

Embedded Media

Embedded media blocks allow you to integrate content from platforms like YouTube, Wistia, or Vimeo. This can enhance your Story with external video content that adds value and depth.

How to Create and Edit

To add embedded media, click the Plus button, select Embed Video, and paste your link from YouTube, Wistia, or Vimeo.

Best Practices

  • Ensure embedded videos are relevant and enhance the overall narrative.

  • Provide context or a brief description for the embedded media to guide your audience.

  • Getting a "Not a Valid URL" error? Confirm the URL is accurate, from Vimeo, Wistia, or YouTube, and embedding permissions are enabled.

StoryPoint Tabs

StoryPoints can be divided into two tabs to organize content more effectively. This allows your audience to switch between different sections of content within a single StoryPoint, enhancing clarity and accessibility.

How to Enable Tabs

Select your StoryPoint, and click the Tabs button.

Invisible StoryPoints

Turn on invisibility to revealed your StoryPoint through interactions from other objects like buttons, media, or other StoryPoints. This feature allows you to create a more interactive and layered experience for your audience.

How to Make Your StoryPoint Invisible

Select your StoryPoint, and click the Style button, and hit the Toggle next to Invisible.

Best Practices

  • Highlight Important Information: Use different StoryPoint types to draw attention to key details.

  • Use Theme Colors: Override theme colors to make key StoryPoints stand out.

  • Limit Clutter: Avoid using more than 3 Bubbles, 5 Tooltips, and 8 Beacons in a single Scene to prevent overload.

  • Consistency: Keep a consistent style and tone across all StoryPoints to maintain a coherent Story experience.

  • Think Outside the Box: StoryPoints aren't just used to highlight product details. You can use them as interactive elements in charts, timelines or illustrations.

  • Check Mobile: Log in to your workspace on your phone to preview your StoryPoint positions and ensure they do not go off screen.

By following these guidelines, you can create engaging and informative StoryPoints that captivate your audience and enhance their understanding of your product.
