Navigating through ScreenSpace Stories is designed to be seamless and intuitive, allowing your audience to easily explore and engage with the content in a variety of ways. Here’s a breakdown of the different navigation types.
Interactive Objects
Interactive objects like StoryPoints, Hotspots, and Buttons can be strategically placed within your Stories to guide your audience through different scenes or product tours.
When to Use Them: As the most engaging way to navigate through a Story, we recommend using contextual navigation wherever possible. Use Hotspots when navigating through a product tour, StoryPoints when jumping from one topic to another, and Buttons to trigger forms or jump somewhere else in the Story.
Best Practices
Use clear visual cues to indicate that an object is interactive and will navigate to a new scene.
Avoid overloading scenes with too many interactive elements to prevent confusion.
Make it clear which interactive objects will continue the journey using consistent colors or placement
Carousel Dots
Carousel dots provide a visual cue for navigating through a series of scenes. They help the audience understand their current position within the Story and allow them to jump to different scenes with a simple click.
When to Use Dot Navigation: For non-linear navigation through a series of related scenes, or jumping from one product or idea to another.
How to Implement
Click Scene Navigation in the Tools
Select the Dots tab
Adjust the Color, Tooltips, and Shadow to fit your design style and make it pop
Arrows
Arrows are recommended for linear navigation and as the most intuitive method of navigation. Positioned at the edges of the screen, these arrows enable the audience to move forward or backward through the scenes, providing a clear and straightforward way to explore your Story.
When to Use Arrows: For linear, step-by-step navigation.
How to Implement
Click Scene Navigation in the Tools
Select the Arrows tab
Adjust the Color, Tooltips, and Shadow to fit your design style and make it pop
Scene Timers
Scene timers automate the navigation process, advancing the audience to the next scene after a predetermined period. This feature ensures that the Story flows smoothly, maintaining engagement without requiring manual input from the audience.
When to Use Scene Timers: For automated presentations or walkthroughs, title animations, and when you want to control the pacing of the Story.
How to Implement
Click Timing Actions in the Tools
Set the desired Action in the Scene Timer
Either set the Time Length, or if your Hero Content includes a video, you can select Media Length to trigger the action when the media ends.
For the transition, select Quick Cut when navigating between two consecutive screens in a tour. Select Fade to Color when jumping to a new area of your product, or an entirely different scene.
Arrow Keys
Arrow keys provide a keyboard-based navigation method, enhancing the user experience during live demos or presentations. Using the left and right arrow keys, the audience can move forward and backward linearly through the Story. The up arrow key allows jumping to the first scene instantly.
When to Use Them: During live demos or presentations where hands-free navigation is preferred or when providing an accessible navigation option for users who prefer keyboard controls.
How to Implement:
Click Scene Navigation in the Tools
Toggle on Arrow Keys
Note: The right arrow key is automatically disabled on Form Scenes to prevent users from bypassing your form.
By utilizing these navigation tools effectively, you can create an engaging and user-friendly experience that keeps your audience interested and guides them through your Stories with ease.
