Welcome to the ScreenSpace Glossary! 📚

Here, you’ll find clear and concise definitions of key terms and concepts related to ScreenSpace and interactive storytelling. Whether you’re new to the platform or just need a quick refresher, our glossary is here to help you navigate and make the most of your ScreenSpace experience.

Stories

At its core, a Story is an immersive web experience – like a video – that uses custom video-game technology to display rich media and marketing content inside an interactive 3D environment.

This allows you to break the rules of traditional websites, tours, videos, and decks – by introducing a new form of experiential storytelling through stunning visuals, interactive content and adaptive buyer-led journeys – A critical ingredient to engage and convert modern B2B buyers.

Scenes

Like slides in a presentation – a Story is made up of Scenes. Each Scene is a collection of interactive objects and media and can be navigated non-linearly. Just like a movie, each Scene has its own narrative. Blend a variety of interactive objects of different sizes and colors to guide the audience with intention.

StoryPoints

StoryPoints are dynamic, expandable windows that display rich media and personalized content. They come in three styles:

StoryPoint Type • Bubble

StoryPoints Bubbles are designed to be the focal point in each Scene, immediately drawing audience attention. They're strategically designed to lead with the most critical value aspects of your product, ensuring that these key messages are the first to engage and resonate with your audience – without getting lost among features.

StoryPoint Type • Tooltip

Tooltips, with optional pointers, are concise callouts that reveal rich media & content when clicked. They make complex products digestible, allowing audiences to explore relevant features without overwhelming them.

StoryPoint Type • Beacon

Beacons are subtle indicators that gently pulse to draw attention to non-critical features without overwhelming the user experience. Features that, while not central to the core value prop or narrative, may offer benefits that may be relevant to specific personas or use cases.

StoryPoint Button

All StoryPoints can include a CTA button, which your audience can click to perform certain actions or navigate to different scenes or other StoryPoints.

StoryPoint Content Block

Content Blocks are sections within a StoryPoint that contain specific pieces of content, such as text, images, or media.

StoryPoint Tabs

Tabs are used for organizing content within a StoryPoint. They enable your audience to switch between different sections of content within a single StoryPoint.

HotSpot

A HotSpot is an interactive overlay that you can adjust to fit around any UI element, adding interactivity to otherwise static screenshots or content. Hover to reveal feature details – click to unveil deeper functionality or navigate through a product flow.

Interactive Media

Media objects allow you to integrate rich media into your Stories – like videos, GIFs, or images – that can open external links, jump to relevant Scenes, or reveal StoryPoints.

Buttons

OK, you've likely already met a button. It does all the things you'd expect a button to do.

Strategically placed, it has the power to convert a qualified buyer – or nurture a window shopper.

Hero Object

The Hero Object is the central or main object within a scene in a Story. It typically represents the main focus or subject of the scene. This object can either be uploaded content, embedded media, or screenshots superimposed inside a 3D monitor or phone.

Object Settings

Object Settings are configuration settings for objects within Stories. They allow you to customize the appearance and behavior of individual objects.

Object Label

Labels identify objects within a Story. It can be used to help the audience understand the purpose or function of a feature, or guide the audience through a narrative.

Object Transform Depth

The depth parameter controls the 3D position of an object within a Story. It can be used to increase engagement and create a sense of hierarchy among objects.

Action

Actions are either triggered by interactions or a pre-defined duration. They guide the audience through a narrative or lead to an external resource.

  • Open an External URL for additional content, book a demo, or start a trial

  • Open a StoryPoint to provide additional context or step by step guidance

  • Jump to a Scene like a choose-your-own-adventure story taking your audience closer to decision

  • Close StoryPoint

Transition

Transitions refer to the animated changes from one scene to another within a Story. They help create a smooth and engaging user experience.

  • Quick Cut to Scene is used to jump from one Scene to another – typically used to navigate from screen to screen in product tours or as a seamless transition between animated content

  • Fade to Color either dynamically fades the content in/out, or dips to a pre-defined color if the Hero Object is consistent between scenes. Recommended when navigating between different products or modules.

Transition Color

The transition color appears during the transition between two scenes with the same Hero Object. Ideally you'll want to match the background color of your screen asset.

Design Override

Highlight key features or moments by overriding the theme at the scene and object level.

Scene Navigation

Add navigation controls through on-screen UI or using the arrows on your keyboard. Let your audience jump to what matters most, or skip what matters least, putting your audience in active discovery mode.

Timing Action

Timing Actions are timed events or interactions within a Story. They can be used to automate certain actions, such as transitioning to a new scene after a certain period of time, or opening a specific StoryPoint. Ideal for title Scenes and transitions.

StoryPoints & HotSpot Timer

This timer controls when objects appear within a scene. It can be used to delay the appearance of these elements for dramatic or instructional purposes.

Scene Timer

Turn your Story into a hybrid video and interactive journey by automating actions and transitions based on timed events or content durations.
